Book Description

Polly Spencer is fine,  She’s single, turning thirty and only managed to have sex twice last year (both times with a Swedish banker called Fred), but seriously, she’s fine.  Even if she’s still stuck at Posh! magazine writing about royal babies, and the chances of finding a plus one for her best friend’s summer wedding look worryingly slim…

My Thoughts

Firstly my thanks to HQ Stories for providing me with a proof copy of this book to read.  I was actually lucky enough to meet the author at an event in the summer where she was talking about this book, I was confident it would be a fun read… and it was!

I adored the character of Polly, written in her voice she was strong and hapless, open and funny.  Matter of fact about life’s misfortunes, including a horrendous situation with Callum early in the story, she reminded me of a fictional Bryony Gordon – open about life’s mishaps, sharing in a way that could be a lesson to many.  Single and with not a great track record in dating Polly, has a wide circle of friends and a wonderful relationship with her mother.  But at 30 the pressures for a ‘plus one’ are there, magnified by her best friend’s wedding but ever present as a cultural norm.img_7642

This book did make me laugh, Thank you Sophia! At times it made me cringe!  But I enjoyed it, it was very easy to read, with some very likeable and certainly interesting characters.  Set in the world of Posh! this was true escapism as we ventured into the eccentric world of the aristocracy and all their foibles.

This book didn’t hold many surprises, but there were some fun twists along the way and it was entertaining throughout.  Recommended by me!
