Book Description

Malie Pukui doesn’t believe in happy ever after. After a tragedy caused her to flee her family and friends in Devon she found a fresh start in Hawaii. Here, working at a surf school, she can give back to those in need and try to overcome the greatest loss in her life.

Moved around foster homes throughout his childhood, Todd Masters now has his own charitable foundation working with disadvantaged children. It’s a job he loves, but he still can’t put his past behind him.

When Malie rescues Todd from the sea a spark ignites between them, and the two wounded souls find a common ground. But can Malie let go of her past and risk something she’d locked away forever… her heart?

My Thoughts

The second in the Georgia Toffolo ‘Meet me in London’ series, this is the story of Malie one of the group of four friends that we first met in Meet me in London (review here), when Victoria was the central character.

Malie has left England, and lives an idyllic life teaching surfing in Hawaii, she loves the sea and surf and has few pressures. That is until she meets Toby a higly successful business man and philanthropist, the attraction for both is immediate but both have significant losses in their pasts which make them reluctant to open up and commit.

A very light and easy romantic read, the location adds to the story and I liked Malie particularly as a character. The story was as expected, the path of true love never runs smoothly and these two, with all their baggage persisted in putting barriers up to prevent any relationship from developing. Their attraction to one another was intense and their resistance equally strong. At times this all felt a bit cliched but the story was enjoyable none the less.

This book had some lovely themes, the trust and growth of vulnerable children being supported by Toby’s charity and learning to surf was sweet and as with the previous story, the strength of the female friendship was nice, although didn’t feature quite so much in this book I don’t think. This is very much romantic fiction and it does what it says it will, cheerful and light, pure escapism with two very beautiful characters and the promise of a perfect future. If this is your thing this book will most definitely not disappoint!
