One much – needed getaway.
Who could have expected it would end in murder…
When her husband Harry walks out after just six months, Sam has never been in more need of a getaway. So when her friends suggest a girls weekend away, Sam can’t accept soon enough.
But then things start to go wrong. Car trouble on the road leaves them stranded. And what’s more, it’s in the town where he lives.
Sam is sure a big night out can’t hurt. After all, it’s hardly likely that Harry would show up, right?
And no one could ever expect the night would end in murder.
Firstly my huge thanks to Kallie at Michael Joseph for sending me a proof copy of this book and inviting me to be involved with the blog tour promoting this book around publication which was February 3rd 2022.
Told from the alternating perspectives of Sam and Margaret in the first person narrative, we meet the trio as they begin their journey to upstate New York. A rest stop at Catskills sees the beginning of their problems when they misplace their car keys, leading to the car being towed and them having to book a rental for the night. That fatal night, the one that ends in MURDER.
Such a great read, a page turner, I was enthralled. Told over several days we track the police investigation as they interview both women. A series of coincidences create a degree of suspicion, their friend Diane is missing and as a body is found the intensity increases, but nothing here is as it seems…
Both Sam and Margaret, our narrators have secrets and as the reader we know we are not being told the whole story, we just don’t know what it is! Subtle clues serve to plant suspicion and at under 400 pages it was easy to read this over a weekend.
The author has skilfully created a plot that is extremely twisty, while remaining authentic. I can’t say I worked it out, that would be a lie! The author kept me guessing throughout and I was impressed with the detail in the story. A really great crime thriller that ticks all the boxes – entertaining, suspenseful, believable and neatly concluded.
Out now in paperback and a book I am definitely recommending!
This is a blog tour and I have seen lots of great reviews for The Perfect Escape on social media, do check out what others are saying and please as always share on your platforms.
