Book Description
THEN
Amelie has always been a survivor, from losing her parents as a child in Paris to making it on her own in London. As she builds a career for herself in the magazine industry, she meets, and agrees to marry, Ned Hawthorne
NOW
Amelie wakes up in a pitch-black room, not knowing where she is. Why has she been taken? Who are her mysterious captors? And wha does she soon feel safer here, imprisoned, then she had begun to feel with her husband Ned?
My Thoughts
I was lucky enough to be invited to a blogger event hosted by Hodder where I was got to meet B. A. Paris and pick up a finished hardback copy of the book which the author was kind enough to sign. I listened to B. A Paris speak briefly about the book, the inspiration behind the idea, but truthfully I had no idea what a cracker this one was going to be. Thank you so much to the team at Hodder Books for inviting me to the event and gifting me the book.
Amelie is a lovely character, from sixteen she had no family and was struggling to make ends meet when she met Carolyn who offered her a job as a live in house keeper, she became friendly with Carolyn’s lovely group of friends, I felt happy for her. Things improved from this point on and she went on to meet billionaire, Ned who owned the magazine she worked for. They marry…
We meet Amelie as she and Ned are being kidnapped, we know Amelie has a knife under her pillow so there is a sense that things weren’t quite as they should be. The story progresses and is told in a then and now format, the now being the time in which Amelie is held captive in a room, the now is the events leading up to this point. What follows is a tremendous, gripping story which I could not put down.
I won’t spoil it here but anyone who has read B.A Paris will know her capacity to create incredible, twisted characters and this book is no exception. A strong, authentic, tense and sinister read which I am certain will be a hit. What are you waiting for – pick this one up now!
